Greeting from Pleasant Hill Elementary, The month of December is quickly passing. The concerts and activities that are special for the students during the holiday seasons are winding down. As we finish the first semester, it is hard to believe that the year is almost half way completed. We will continue our mission to prepare our students for success in this ever changing world and to be a positive influence in the community. There will be new activities for students when we welcome back our students and their families from the break. It is a time of change as families move in and out of our district. We will miss students whose families are moving and transferring to other schools. We wish them our best as they continue their education. We are hopeful that they have good memories of the time they were here. We want to welcome our new students and their families that join us. We hope that you find your transition here to Pleasant Hill Elementary smooth and enjoyable. The Jump Rope Club under the direction of Mrs. Haines will continue to meet twice a week in the morning. Mrs. Haines is assisted by Mrs. Goad. The club provides our students an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular activity, get exercise, and develop a life time activity. The members work on various jump rope activities every morning. The club members will perform their routines at the February 7 PTO meeting at 7:00. Then the club members will perform at the February assembly on February 14 at 2:30 to show the other students what they have learned as a wrap up of the club’s activities. Mrs. Haines will continue her Family Fun Nights. The next one is scheduled for January 26 at 6:30 in the gym. Mrs. Haines has activities for the entire family to participate in at the Family Fun Night. It offers families opportunities to do things together. We hope to see you there. The third grade will participate in the D.A.R.E. program starting in February. Corporal Tieman of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office is our DARE officer. He will go into the third grade classrooms to talk to the students about peer pressure and doing what is right even if it is difficult. He will visit each classroom for 5 weeks. We will take the MAP in the spring. MAP is the Missouri Achievement Program. We take the Communication Arts and Math tests in the third and fourth grades. This will be the first time for the third grade students to take the MAP. Our testing dates are April 16-20. More details and information about the MAP tests will be sent home in classroom and school newsletters as the time for the test gets closer. This is a busy time of year, and we are looking forward to the challenges that are ahead. Sincerely, John A. Stahl, |
