Message from the Superintendent

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year.

We are coming off a spring where all schools in our country were shut down as we attempted to slow down the spread of COVID-19. We have had many challenges that our students, staff and community adapted too and successfully finished the school year with a graduation and a prom. All this was accomplished while working on re-opening plans for this school year. We have gathered information and feedback from local, regional and national sources to prepare for what will be another challenging year for the educational process. The goal for this year is to provide an uninterrupted education for our students while providing responsible and safe conditions for our staff and students to teach and learn. There are many different beliefs on how this can look and we will be recommending one that will provide the Pleasant Hill R-3 School District the best continuity of education for the 2020-21 school year. This information will be released on July 24th.

I would like to extend a huge thank you to our Southwest Food Service workers, Durham Bus Company and all the volunteers that contributed to a successful meal pick-up and delivery process during our school closure through June 30th. We were able to provide over 50,000 meals to our community at no cost during a difficult time for many of our families. Also, the Fellowship Church and Hy-Vee were our partners in providing dinners on Tuesday evenings for our community. This was one of the most rewarding things I participated in during this difficult and unusual time in our country’s history.

We have set the dates for centralized enrollment at the high school for August 5th and August 6th. This process may look a little different as well as this will not be a requirement for those that choose to complete everything on line prior to the enrollment dates. Our staff will return to campus on August 18th with the first day of school being on Monday, August 24th. We look forward to everyone getting registered and coming back to start the new school year.
